Our opening campaign is a collaboration with the collective SOS Humedal Tibabuyes based in Suba, Colombia. This collective is defending the largest wetland in Bogota, Humedal Tibabuyes from greenwashing, destruction and degradation in the name of ecotourism and highly questionable initiatives.

Since our campaign launch on wetlands we have been creating wetland content to help our audience comprehend the importance of wetlands to our global ecosystem and be able to understand and recognize harmful greenwashing initiatives. As the campaign grows we will be including inquiries into the funding of these projects.

For Humedal Tibabuyes this looks like municipal government led initiatives that historically have (just to name a few examples) drained the wetland, filled it with “sustainable” concrete and refilled it to look cleaner. This prevents the wetland from being able to perform the job that was given to her by Mother Earth and leads to the flooding of communities that have been built right up alongside the wetland whenever it rains (which has been happening more and more frequently thanks to climate chaos). Wetlands are nature's sponges and when they are not able to act as they're supposed to, problems begin to arise.

Another example is the installation of concrete trails around and proposals for concrete bridges through the wetland that impact the biodiversity and safety of migratory birds that rely on Tibabuyes for a safe place to rest as they journey through.

We Prophecy and SOS Humedal Tibabuyes are inviting people to connect with their local wetlands, learn about the threats and history of the land and people who have relationship with the wetlands in hopes this will ignite a desire to rise up for wetlands and in solidarity with the fight to protect Humedal Tibabuyes and all of the life she holds.

Follow the fight to stay connected to how we are unraveling the story that is being presented to the public in Bogota about harmful projects threatening Humedal Tibabuyes.

The hope is also that we can build a global tapestry of wetland defenders sharing all our stories to reveal the truth about the damage and harm being enacted on wetlands, and collaboration on restoration efforts that align truly with an ecocentric perspective of the world.

SOS Humedal Tibabuyes at the COP16 on Biodiversity in Cali, Colombia 2024

Nuestra campaña de apertura es una colaboración con el colectivo SOS Humedal Tibabuyes, basado en Suba, Colombia. Este colectivo está defendiendo el humedal más grande de Bogotá, Humedal Tibabuyes, frente al greenwashing, la destrucción y la degradación en nombre del ecoturismo y otras iniciativas muy cuestionables.

Desde el lanzamiento de nuestra campaña sobre humedales, hemos estado creando contenido sobre humedales para ayudar a nuestra audiencia a comprender la importancia de los humedales para nuestro ecosistema global y ser capaces de reconocer y entender las iniciativas de greenwashing dañinas. A medida que la campaña crezca, incluiremos investigaciones y consultas sobre la financiación de estos proyectos.

En el caso de Humedal Tibabuyes, esto se manifiesta a través de iniciativas lideradas por el gobierno distrital que históricamente han (solo unos ejemplos) drenado el humedal y lo han llenado de concreto "sostenible" y lo han rellenado para que luzca más limpio. Esto impide que el humedal pueda cumplir la función que le fue asignada por la Madre Tierra y provoca inundaciones en las comunidades construidas justo al lado del humedal cada vez que llueve (lo cual ha ocurrido con mayor frecuencia debido al caos climático). Los humedales son las esponjas naturales y, cuando no pueden actuar como deberían, comienzan a surgir problemas.

Otro ejemplo es la instalación de senderos de concreto alrededor y propuestas de puentes de concreto a través del humedal que impactan la biodiversidad y seguridad de las aves migratorias que dependen de Tibabuyes para un lugar seguro donde descansar durante su viaje.

We Prophecy y SOS Humedal Tibabuyes, invitamos a las personas a conectarse con sus humedales locales, aprender sobre las amenazas y la historia de la tierra y las personas vinculadas a los humedales, con la esperanza de que esto despierte el deseo de alzarse por los humedales y en solidaridad con la lucha para proteger Humedal Tibabuyes y toda la vida que él alberga.

Sigue la lucha para estar al tanto de cómo vamos desentrañando la historia que se está presentando al público en Bogotá sobre proyectos dañinos que amenazan a Humedal Tibabuyes.

La esperanza es que tambien podamos construir un tapiz global de defensores de los humedales que compartan todas nuestras historias para revelar la verdad sobre el daño y el perjuicio que se produce en los humedales, y colaborar en esfuerzos de restauración que se alineen verdaderamente con una perspectiva ecocéntrica del mundo.
